The Association for Women in Architecture (AWA) is once again offering scholarships to qualified women in the fields of Architecture, Interior Design, Urban and Land Planning, Landscape Architecture, Environmental Design and Civil, Structural, Mechanical and Electrical Engineering as related to architecture. Need is no longer a consideration in our selection of winners, however we do require a small portfolio of the student’s work.  .  The application forms and  requirements are available now on our web site www.awa-la.org

The deadline for submitting applications is April 15, 2009.

SEAOSC Scholarship

The Structural Engineers Association of Southern California (SEAOSC) is pleased to announce the 2010 SEAOSC Scholarships. SEAOSC will present scholarships to outstanding university students from the Southern California and Tri-County areas that are pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering.

Candidate Qualifications

All scholarship nominations shall be submitted by the Civil/Structural Engineering Department faculty member listed below. All nominees shall be undergraduate students unless otherwise approved by the SEAOSC Scholarship Committee. There will be a limit of one scholarship award per each of the eleven participating universities. Please speak with Professor James Mwangi, jmwangi@calpoly.edu for more information.

Award

The scholarship amounts will vary based on the SEAOSC evaluation committee’s recommendations. Last year’s scholarship recipients received awards in the amounts of $1,000 to $2,500. This year’s awards may be more or less depending on the generous contribution from the Structural Engineering Community.

Application

Criteria for nomination include excellence in both academics and leadership with the desire to pursue a career in Structural Engineering. All students who wish to be considered for the scholarship shall submit the following
information no later than Friday, December 11, 2009 to the faculty member listed below.

  1. A statement of purpose describing their interest in pursuing structural engineering –(2) typed pages max.
  2. A resume of achievements and activities – please include your phone number and email address.
  3. A letter of recommendation from a nominating professor or from a student’s lead teacher – (Optional)

Selection Process

The scholarship awards will be announced and presented on Wednesday, February 3, 2010 at the annual SEAOSC Scholarship Awards Ceremony & Structural Engineering Job Fair. All Civil/Structural engineering students and their faculty advisors will be invited to attend the event FREE of charge as guests of SEAOSC. The student job fair will feature prominent Structural Engineering firms from Southern California Area.

PTI Scholarship - William C. Bailey Memorial Scholarship

This award was established in 2008 to honor William C. Bailey for his exceptional
contributions to the post!tensioning industry. Mr. Bailey, deceased, was a Fellow of PTI and
was an active member over his 30!plus year career in the post!tensioning industry. He served
as PTI President in 1993!1994 and as Chairman of the Unbonded Tendon Committee. Funding
has been provided by many of his peers and long!time friends in the industry. The scholarship
is for undergraduate (senior level) and graduate study in the field of concrete structures with
an emphasis on structural design, materials, construction, or any combination thereof with a
clear focus on post!tensioning design and application.

Two scholarships of $3,500 each will be awarded for the Spring 2010 school term.
Award recipients will be selected and announced December 14, 2009. In addition, the award
recipient and their faculty advisor will be honored at an awards ceremony that will be held in
conjunction with the Post!Tensioning Institute’s 2010 Annual Technical Conference. The
student and his/her faculty advisor will be invited to attend the conference and awards
presentation at PTI expense.
